Kaspa (KAS) is the second most popular coin mined, with already more than 50% of the Ethereum Classic (ETC) miners, and RavenCoin (RVN), with about 30% of the ETC miners, is in third place, according to mining statistics provided by Hive OS network based on users of their platform. However, the majority of Ethash/ETChash ASICs are not supported by HiveOS, so the statistics are primarily based on GPU miners. This makes the comparison here a little unfair. Although ETC continues to hold a very strong position for GPU miners, in part due to the dual mining with Zilliqa (ZIL), its position as the top mineable GPU crypto coin is gradually being overtaken by other coins such as the more established RVN and the newcomer KAS. In order to earn some extra money, Kaspa (KAS) can already be dual-mined with ZIL. It won’t be long before other coins, like RVN, can also be dual-mined with ZIL.
The mining statistics also show some other intriguing information, such as the most popular AMD and Nvidia GPUs for mining being Radeon RX 570 and RX 580, respectively. Since the Antminer L3+ Scrypt miner is more profitable than the still widely used Antminer S9 SHA256 ASIC miner for Bitcoin, it has surpassed all other ASIC miners in terms of popularity. However, you should be aware that both of the top spots have Hiveon firmware installed, which adds a ton of extra options for customizing the miners for significantly higher efficiency than the default settings. Not to mention that the L3+ and S9 are increasingly being used in do-it-yourself home heater projects that also mine cryptocurrency to offset some of the electricity costs.
It appears that lolMiner is currently the most widely used mining application on the platform. This is likely because it is the best-performing and most feature-rich KAS miner available right now. Teamredminer and Nbminer are tied for second place. The majority of Kaspa (KAS) miners currently use lolMiner, but GMiner is catching up in terms of performance and recently has taken the lead in terms of features with the addition of dual-mining KAS with ZIL. Since there are many options for mining ETC and RVN with essentially identical performance, ETC miners continue to use a variety of miners that are more based on personal preference.
